Tyler Duncan Wins Third Consecutive Home Run Derby Crown at CBL All-Star Skills Competition

CHATHAM – Tyler Duncan has a home run derby dynasty. The Hamilton Cardinals slugger took down Yushin Ohta of the host Chatham-Kent Barnstormers in the final at Fergie Jenkins Field on Saturday, locking up his third straight derby crown. Duncan, 27, came into the event with just two homers on the season but flipped the switch when it mattered. He squeezed past Guelph's Victor Mascai 8-7 in the quarters, then outlasted London's Tucker Zdunich 22-21 in a semifinal shootout that had the crowd buzzing. In the final, Ohta went first and dropped 17 bombs. Duncan answered right away, going deep on his first three cuts and piling up 11 before the break. He tacked on seven more after that to seal the three-peat. Ohta, a second-year outfielder with eight homers this season, barely got past Brantford's Christian Ortega 11-10 in the opening round. He ended up in a 12-12 deadlock with teammate Greyson Barrett in the semis, then edged him 5-4 in the swing-off to earn his spot against Duncan.
