Matt Ferreira
Matt Ferreira joins the Hamilton Cardinals with a wealth of experience in athletics administration and coaching. Currently the Athletic Director at Mohawk College, Ferreira has spent over a decade in collegiate sports, including his time at Humber College, where he managed athletics operations and led the baseball program to an OCAA Championship and national title, earning Coach of the Year honors in 2018. He also has deep roots in the Etobicoke Rangers baseball program as a coach, player, and leader of their Jr. program.
A former collegiate baseball athlete, Ferreira holds a Bachelor’s in Exercise Science and a Master’s in Physical Education. Residing in Hamilton with his wife, Lauren, and their two sons, Beckett and Carter, Ferreira is set to bring his leadership and expertise to the 22U Jr. Baseball program as he spearheads its growth and success.

Troy Black
Troy Black joins the Hamilton Cardinals with a wealth of coaching and playing experience. At Humber College, he led the baseball program to an impressive .766 overall record (49-15) over three seasons, earning three consecutive OCAA silver medals (2021, 2022, 2023) and recognition as the 2022 OCAA Coach of the Year.
As a former standout infielder at the University of Maine and a professional player in the Baltimore Orioles organization, Black brings a deep understanding of the game and a proven ability to develop talent and build winning teams.

Liam Sutherland
Liam Sutherland joins the Hamilton Cardinals as an Assistant Coach, bringing valuable playing experience and a proven track record of success. Sutherland played two seasons in the Intercounty Baseball League (IBL) with the Brantford Red Sox, where he posted a career batting average of .303, driving in 37 RBIs and hitting five home runs.
A standout collegiate player, Sutherland hit for a .389 career average at Humber College, winning two OCAA Championships and earning OCAA Player of the Year honors. He also played at the University of Waterloo, where he studied Recreation and Sports Business. Sutherland’s blend of playing experience and academic background will be a great asset to the Cardinals’ coaching staff.

Luis Bernardo
Luis Bernardo joins the coaching staff as Assistant Coach after two seasons as the Cardinals’ starting catcher. His playing career includes six seasons in the Baltimore Orioles organization, where he advanced to the Class-A Advanced level with the Frederick Keys. In addition to his coaching role, Bernardo’s responsibilities also include overseeing import player recruitment for the IBL team.
