Hamilton Cardinals Add Eckstein and Scott as Special Advisors to Baseball Operations

The Hamilton Cardinals have appointed Corey Eckstein and Perry Scott as Special Advisors to Baseball Operations. They bring extensive experience in player development, coaching, and scouting.

Eckstein, President of the Ontario Blue Jays—one of Canada’s top amateur baseball programs—has reshaped every program he’s been part of and is widely regarded as one of the most influential figures in Canadian baseball. His impact has earned him a place on the Canadian Baseball Network’s Top 100 Most Influential Canadians in Baseball (2022-2024).

A former professional scout with the Kansas City Royals, Eckstein earned an American League Championship and a World Series ring during his tenure. Over nearly two decades, he has played a key role in Canadian baseball development, leading the Abbotsford Cardinals to multiple titles and expanding key development programs.

With a career coaching record of 368-274, Eckstein guided the Ontario Blue Jays’ 17U team to a 2023 CPBL Championship. He has also contributed to the Canadian Junior National Team’s success and coached top showcase events across North America.

Joining him is Perry Scott, a longtime leader in Canadian baseball with over 20 years of experience, following a standout playing career at Clarke University, where he was inducted into the Hall of Fame.

Following his playing career, Perry has been a major force in youth baseball development with BullettProof Baseball, Fieldhouse Pirates, and the Ontario Blue Jays. He also contributed to Baseball Ontario’s back-to-back National Championships.

Now calling Hamilton home with their families, Eckstein and Scott have brought valuable experience and connections to the Cardinals, playing a key role in shaping the team’s roster alongside Matt Creally, the coaching staff, and ownership.

“We wanted to take a more collaborative approach when building our roster, where multiple voices contribute to key baseball decisions,” said Cardinals owner Eric Spearin.

“By adding the experience and connections of Eck and Perry, we’ve strengthened our ability to evaluate talent and make informed decisions,” Spearin added.

“With Matt Creally leading our data-driven approach as Director of Stats and Advanced Scouting and our coaching staff playing a key role in the process, we’ve built a well-rounded system that blends analytics with baseball expertise. It’s great to see this group work together to provide opportunities for players to continue their baseball careers in Canada after college.”
