Hamilton Cardinals Sign Hector Yan For 2026 Season

HAMILTON, ON – The Hamilton Cardinals are excited to announce the signing of left-handed pitcher Hector Yan for the 2026 season. A native of La Romana, Dominican Republic, Yan began his professional career in 2015 after signing a minor-league contract with the Los Angeles Angels organization. He made his debut in 2016 with the Dominican Summer League Angels, posting a 0.89 ERA and 9.8 K/9 across 30.1 innings pitched. Yan spent the 2017 and 2018 seasons at the rookie-ball level, where he continued to produce high strikeout totals, again recording a 9.8 K/9 in 46.0 innings pitched across the two seasons. In 2019, Yan pitched for Single-A Burlington and recorded a 3.39 ERA and 12.2 K/9 across 109.0 innings. Heading into the cancelled 2020 season, he was ranked as the Angels’ No. 12 prospect by MLB.com. Yan returned to game action in 2021 with High-A Tri-City, striking out 94 batters in 82.1 innings. He represented the Angels at the All-Star Futures Game at Coors Field, making a scoreless relief appearance. Yan was ranked as high as the Angels’ No. 9 prospect during the season. Across five Minor League seasons, Yan posted a 3.90 ERA with 325 strikeouts in 267.2 innings pitched, reaching the High-A level. Yan brings two seasons of Canadian Baseball League experience to Hamilton, having pitched for the Guelph Royals from 2023 to 2024. He has a career 4.01 ERA with 135 strikeouts over 119.1 innings pitched and was named a CBL All-Star in 2024.
