Carlos Dominguez hit a two-run walk-off home run as the Hamilton Cardinals beat the Welland Jackfish 7-6 at Bernie Arbour Stadium.

HAMILTON — Carlos Dominguez sent the Bernie Arbour Stadium crowd home happy Friday night. Dominguez crushed a two-run, walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth inning, lifting the Hamilton Cardinals to a wild 7-6 win over the Welland Jackfish. The Jackfish nearly stole it in the top half of the inning. Welland put up four runs against the Cardinals bullpen to erase a 5-1 Hamilton lead and take a 6-5 advantage into the bottom of the ninth. Brandon Nicoll led off the bottom of the ninth with a fly out. Then Dominguez stepped to the plate and ended it. The Cardinals had jumped on Jackfish starter Euclides Leyer early. Nicoll drew a one-out walk and Dominguez singled. Darlin German added a single to load the bases, and Tyler Duncan cleared them with a bases-loaded single that scored Dominguez and German and pushed Hamilton ahead 3-0. Duncan later doubled in the fifth and scored on a German sacrifice fly. In the seventh, Dominguez doubled and scored on German's RBI single to stretch the lead to 5-1. Owen Boon was solid through six-plus innings for Hamilton, allowing one run on three hits with five strikeouts and two walks. The Jackfish run came in the second on Greyson Barrett's RBI double that plated Justin Gideon. Logan Warkentin got the win in relief for the Cardinals. Deivy Mendez took the loss for Welland after serving up the walk-off homer. Dominguez finished 5-for-5 with a double, a home run, two RBIs and the game-winning run. Duncan added three hits, including a double, and drove in a run. German went 3-for-3 with three RBIs. The Cardinals are back at Bernie Arbour Stadium on Sunday at 4:05 p.m. when the London Majors come to town.
